Moving through the tragic loss of her husband Stephan Weiss, seven years ago to cancer, Donna Karan realized there was something missing when it came to the treatment of her husband’s cancer. She noted a paucity of Eastern based treatments.

After her husband’s passing, Ms. Karan was determined to help create awareness and inspire change in well-being to include integrative medicine, one that balanced both the scence of the West with the ancient healing powers of the East.

In 2006, Donna Karan and Sonja Nuttall launched The Urban Zen Foundation.

The Urban Zen Foundation creates, connects and collaborates to raise awareness and inspire change in the areas of well-being, preserving cultures and empowering children. The Foundation designs forums, partners with existing organizations and brings together experts to define solutions and implement actions.

  • Beth Rose says:

How could such a program be set up at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY?

  • Jill Welch says:

We have begun a similar program here in Wyoming at our hospital. We do not have the dollars and all available specialists in that field, however we do provide specialized care for cancer patients and their families.
