National Cancer InstituteThe National Cancer Institute’s website highlights research programs that are extensive and contain many innovative initiatives. You will find valuable cancer-related information of all kinds.

For the general public, patients, and health professionals, they offer consumer-oriented information on a wide range of topics as well as comprehensive descriptions of their research programs and clinical trials. Scientists will find detailed information on specific areas of research interest and funding opportunities.

The NCI, established under the National Cancer Institute Act of 1937, is the Federal Government’s principal agency for cancer research and training. The National Cancer Institute coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

Topics covered are types of cancer, what is cancer and a support and research section. There is a section called Coping with Cancer which we find very helpful. It addresses managing side effects and complications caused by cancer and its treatment. We particularly found the information and support resources recommended for quitting smoking and prevention a must read.
