Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® was founded in 1982 by a group of caring individuals who dreamed of a place where children, who have had their lives devastated by childhood cancer, could laugh, sing, enjoy the outdoors, make new friends and recapture what being a child is supposed to be.

This dedicated group, including parents, doctors, nurses, community leaders and a willing group of volunteer counselors, set off with sixty kids to Calamigos Ranch in Malibu to conduct the first Camp Good Times ever. Summer and winter camps for young cancer patients have been held ever since.

By the end of 2001 thousands of campers have attended Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. Camp is offered to any child between the ages of 7 and 18, at any stage of illness or treatment, newly diagnosed or off treatment for years – at no cost to their family. Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® programs have also grown to provide spring and fall Family Camps for families who have a child with cancer from the ages of infant to six(and older) and their Sibling Camps that provide the same fun and support for the brothers and sisters of their camper patients.

To meet the special needs of campers, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times purchased a permanent campsite, APPLE CANYON CENTER, located in the pine-filled mountains just west of Palm Springs. Its multi-phased renovation project has made an eleven year dream come true which is to provide a permanent camp site designed to meet the special needs of young cancer patients.

This project has enabled Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® to expand it’s year-round programs and increase the number of cancer patients able to enjoy a “normal” camping adventure.

Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® is a program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California, a not for profit organization founded in 1977 to build the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House®.  Additional projects of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, besides Camp and the L.A. Ronald McDonald House®, are the Ronald McDonald Houses® of Orange County Pasadena, and Loma Linda.

The Ronald McDonald House® provides help, comfort and a place to stay for the families of young patients undergoing treatment at nearby Children’s Hospitals.

Such a great cause. And there is a simple way we can all support Ronald McDonald House Charities and other great charities just by using Yahoo web search. Just go to http://www.freelanthropy.com, select Ronald McDonald House of Southern California and then just search the web. They get paid each time we search.
