The mission of America’s Baby Cancer Foundation (ABCF) is to raise awareness of baby cancer, to provide aid and education for families with children with cancer, and to help fund research for a cure.

Cancer is the leading disease-related cause of death in children. They focus on birth to early childhood with diagnoses of rare cancers.

America’s Baby Cancer Foundation calls these “baby cancers” – they are evident at birth or diagnosed shortly thereafter – to increase the public’s attention and awareness.

The ABCF was founded in 2000 in Long Beach, California, as Sebastian’s Baby Cancer Foundation. It was started by Bernard and Antonia Hicks, following the loss of their child, Sebastian Hicks, at the age of nineteen months. Sebastian was born with cancer of the neck and brain, and during his course of treatment, Bernard and Antonia realized the desperate need for research, aid and education for themselves, their son and for other families faced with baby cancer.

In 2002, the organization’s name was changed to America’s Baby Cancer Foundation to better reflect the expanding geographic reach of the Foundation, and the growing network of families who have suffered like experiences and who are working to build and support this entity.

Everyone knows of cancers which strike adults. There are hundreds of groups working to raise money to further the fight against Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer and Lung Cancer.

Many people believe that cancer only strikes in our later years, yet cancer is the leading cause of disease-related deaths among children in the United States. And despite the efforts of researchers to find a cure, childhood cancer rates are increasing at a rate of approximately 1% each year .

Baby cancers affect the innocent who are too young to speak or fight for themselves. These babies and young children need your help.

That’s what America’s Baby Cancer Foundation is all about. The foundation’s goals are to raise money and provide help. Money for research, including both traditional and alternative programs. Money to provide financial assistance for treatment costs not covered by insurance, advice, counseling and useful information together with special treats for the families with children with cancer.
