Breast Cancer Awareness Month Going Strong

October is known as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was in 1985 and was started by AstraZeneca, the makers of breast cancer drugs Arimidex and Tamoxfen. The idea was to promote mammography as the most effective way for women to fight breast cancer.

In 1993, the pink ribbon became the symbol of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month when Evelyn Lauder founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

There are many events that take place during this month to raise money to help fight the disease of breast cancer and in recent years National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has touched on the issue of getting men aware that they can also get breast cancer. Many men were unaware that they could get breast cancer until they were made aware by efforts associated with National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
